Month-End Close Services planning and financial review

What this service is

Month-end close is the set of steps that turns a month of recorded transactions into final, checked numbers. After each month ends we reconcile every bank, card, and loan account, record the adjusting entries day-to-day bookkeeping doesn't capture, accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, review the results against last month and budget, and then lock the period so the numbers stop changing. You receive the same financial package on the same schedule every month.

What we actually do

Reconcile cash, card, and loan accounts

Match every statement balance to the ledger and resolve missing, duplicate, or misdated entries.

Monthly

Record accruals and adjustments

Book expenses incurred but not yet billed, revenue earned but not yet invoiced, prepaid amortization, and depreciation.

Monthly

Tie out balance sheet accounts

Reconcile receivables, payables, payroll liabilities, sales tax payable, and loans to their supporting schedules.

Monthly

Review variances before release

Compare results to the prior month and budget and investigate unusual swings before anyone relies on the numbers.

Monthly

Lock the period and deliver the package

Close the period in your accounting software so prior months can't change silently, then deliver the financial statements.

Monthly

Maintain the close checklist and calendar

Keep a written record of each step, who owns it, and the business day it is due, updated as the business changes.

What You Get

Close Checklist Design

A documented, repeatable close checklist sequencing every reconciliation and adjusting entry in the right order.

Account Reconciliations

Bank, credit card, loan, and balance sheet account reconciliations completed every period, not just when something looks wrong.

Adjusting Entries & Accruals

Accrual-basis adjustments, prepaid amortization, and depreciation entries recorded consistently each month.

Close Calendar & schedule

A fixed monthly schedule so the close lands on the same business day range every month, not whenever time allows.

Variance Review

A month-over-month and budget-to-actual variance check built into the close, catching errors before the package goes out.

  • Documented close checklist and calendar
  • Reconciled balance sheet each month
  • Adjusting entry and accrual schedule
  • Variance summary against prior period and budget

When this service may fit

  • Your close regularly takes more than three weeks after month-end
  • Account reconciliations happen inconsistently or get skipped
  • You need close discipline strong enough for lender or investor scrutiny
  • Errors keep surfacing months after the period they occurred in

How It Works

1

Current close process assessment

Map each balance sheet account to a supporting schedule and identify unfinished reconciliations from earlier periods.

2

Checklist and calendar design

Sequence bank, receivable, payable, payroll, and accrual work around an agreed cutoff and review date.

3

First closes run under the new process with review

Run the first close, investigate unusual balances, and document adjustments with supporting evidence.

4

Ongoing execution with monthly quality check

Release the financial package with open items assigned to an owner; use the next close to resolve recurring bottlenecks.

Your Role

Provide complete statements, unpaid invoices, payroll changes, and unusual transactions before the agreed cutoff. Confirm estimates and approve entries that require management judgment.

Service Scope

Prior-period cleanup, inventory counts, and rebuilding missing schedules are assessed separately. A monthly close does not provide an audit opinion.
